.aceA compressed file format similar to .zip or .rar used on this site due to small file sizes. Check the faq on how to 'un-ace' files.
Another ModeThe intermediate mode of DDR characterized by red. These steps are harder than basic, but easier than SSR/Maniac. In some versions it is called 'Trick'.
AutofailA setting on DDR in which when your life bar completely drops the song ends. When activated, instead of waiting until the end of the song, the song will stop when you fail. One difference between normal mode and autofail is that you can build up your lifebar after you fail assuming the other player still has an active bar.
Basic ModeBasic, Standard, and on some early mixes Hard mode. This is the default mode for play. With beginner mode (USA) aside, it is the easiest mode.
BattleA mode on 4th mix where the arrows rise from the center of the bottom of the screen for both players. Blue steps are for player 1, red for player 2 and green steps that both players need to step on. It is similar to Unison mode on 3rd mix but much easier to read the steps.
BeatmaniaThe first Bemani game. Using a dj controller -- a controller with 3 white keys, 2 black keys and a sratch pad -- you press the corresponding keys as the notes get to the bottom.
BeatMania IIDXA Bemani game in which you play a DJ controller. The controller has 7 keys (4 white, 3 black) and a scratch pad. This game is the same as Beatmania only with an additional 2 keys and some additional in game options.
BemaniA branch of Konami that includes all music games. It was created shortly after the release of Konami's first music game, Beatmania from which Bemani takes its name.
BooRating in DDR for barely getting a step. This will break a combo.
CatastrophicThe hardest difficutly in DDR characterized by 9 steps. This was first on the 2nd mix append mix.
ComboGetting a string of notes in the top 2 percesions in most games.
In DDR this is all perfects and greats.
- Beatmania: *Greats* and Greats
CoupleMode in DDR (like single, double, versus) where two players play steps that are different. Often players will have solo's or will face each other more often. Usually this means less total steps and difficulty than versus mode.
Dance Dance RevolutionThe basis for this site ^_^ Check out the link for more details.
Dance FreaksThe Korean version of DanceManiaX. Contains a few more songs than the first mix of DanceManiaX.
Dance With IntensityA DDR simulator for the PC. With it, the music, background and step files you can play it just as you would on playstation.
DanceManiaXA Bemani game with 2 sensors a little above waist high in front of you. One on the left, one on the right. Little ovals scroll up up the screen as music is played and when they get to the top you wave your hand over the corresponding sensor. There are 4 options: under the left sensor, over it, under the right, and over the right. The ovals on the screen are pink for top 'waves' and blue for under waves.
Dancing StageThe european name for DDR. It is also the title of two Japanese games: True Kiss Destination and Dancing Stage.
DDRShort for Dance Dance Revolution.
DifficultIntermediate mode in DDR USA equivilent to Another mode or Trick mode.
Dual PremiumRefers to a setting on DDR where 1 credit will allow any of the following: Single, Versus, Unison (if avaliable), or Double. This allows both players to play on a single credit instead of needing two.
FlatA mode change on DDR which makes all arrows the same color regarless of beat.
FreestylePlaying a game with the intention of improvising. For DDR this usually means trying to dance to the song. Most often the word freestyle is used to describe routines that are practiced over and over and planned out.
GoodRating in DDR for stepping somewhat offbeat. This will break a combo.
GreatPerfect in DDR for stepping slightly off beat, but will continue combo.

Also a rating in Beatmania for Right on the beat (it will appear multicolored) or slightly off beat but will still continue combo.
Guitar FreaksA Bemani game in which you play a guitar. To do so you hold down any of three keys at the head of the guitar and strum the chord.
HiddenA mode change in DDR where the arrows dissappear as they get to the top of the screen.
Keyboard ManiaA Bemani game in which you play a keyboard. To do so you must press the corresponding keys as the notes get to the bottom of the screen. There are 28 keys and a twang bar that can be used in 2 ways making this the most difficult Bemani game according to most.
Light 7The easiest mode of IIDX.
MissRating in DDR for completely missing a step in DDR. This will break a combo.
NaokiProbably the most important DDR artist. Also has done with under NMR, U1 and other aliases.
Para ParaA form of dancing that originated in teh '70s in Japan. In this dance you mostly use your hands. Para Para Paradise was modeled after this game.

This is also the mode in Para Para Paradise where you attempt to do the actual dance for the song.
Para Para DancingThe Korean version of Para Para Paradise. Contains a few less songs.
Para Para ParadiseA Bemani game in which you wave your hands over 5 sensors.
PerfectRating in DDR for stepping percisely on the beat.
Pop 'n MusicA Bemani game in which you play a hit a series of large round nubs. There are 7 such nubs, 3 are used in single play, all 7 are used in double. As the notes get to the bottom of the screen you must press the nub.
Pump It UpA music game (not by Konami) that is sometimes confused with DDR. There are 5 arrows, 4 at the corners and one in the middle. It is conceptually the same as DDR. Pump has hold arrows which just became a part of DDR.
RedOctaneThe number one DDR store.
S4RUsually refers to Sudden Shuffle SSR mode. This is a new challange to people who have cleared all songs.

This sometimes refers to Stealth Shuffle SSR. Accomplishing this is done in one of 2 almost inconcievable ways.
1) Having a 2nd player play the song normally and translating the steps and finding out how they are shuffled.
2) Memorizing all possible shuffles of the song and determining which one it is during the first steps.. (hey i said it was hard ;p)
SSRStep Step Revolution, Maniac or Expert mode. The most difficult mode in DDR.
StandardUSA mix term for Basic mode. See "Basic".
StealthA mode change in many Bemani games that makes all notes dissapear. In order to play with this mode players usually have the songs memorized.
Step Step RevolutionA mode in 3rd mix where you play all songs in flat mode, and only in SSR. Also the most difficult mode. See "SSR".
SuddenA mode change in DDR where the steps appear towards the top of the screen.
TechnicalPlaying a game for score/perfects or something measureable.
Topway PadA cheap 3rd party Dance mat.
TrickTerm used for Another mode in the earliest versions of DDR. See "Another".
UnisonA mode (like single, double, versus) on DDR 3rd mix. In this mode arrows scroll towards one set of (4) arrows at the top. Arrows the left player needs to step for are blue, red for the right player and yellow for both players. If a step is missed by one player, the other can get it in order to stay alive. Afterwords a 'Unison %' will be given depending on how close the players steps are.
VividMode change in DDR that makes arrows different colors depending on beat. This is typically only used on 'Step Step Revolution' mode on 3rd Mix.
WildThe most difficult mode in DanceManiaX
YesAsiaOne of the top sources for Para VCDs, VCDs and many more imports.
